Ready or Not
Saying Yes Anyway
There is no such thing as perfect timing. I have learned this over and over in a hundred different rooms, and I'm learning it again right now, working with my family to launch a retreat space from the ground up in a small jungle town in Costa Rica.
We are still creating the brand. Still deciding on the sheets, the yoga gear, whether the sunset deck needs beds or chairs or both. We are figuring out menus, proposing itineraries, and cultivating partnerships. Every day I check a few things off the list just to add a few more. And a few weeks ago, we started taking reservations anyway.
We could have waited. We could have told ourselves: once the sauna is in, once the rooms are finished, once I have the photos that actually do it justice, then I'll let people in. The perfectionist in me wants to wait. But almost nothing in my life that has ever mattered started from a place of readiness. It started from the yes I said before I was ready.
Soul on Fire
Years before I ever imagined building something like ORA, my mentor Linda decided to turn one of my favourite books, On Fire by John O'Leary, into a movie. She asked if I wanted to be part of it, and I had the true honour of being one of the first yeses to her vision, before there was a script, a cast, or any proof this would ever actually become a movie.
It wasn't my first crazy yes. Not even close. But it was one I had to trust my gut on, no guarantee, no timeline, nothing but instinct and the chance to return the belief she'd once placed in me. I said yes anyway, and I watched it unfold before my eyes.
Soul on Fire took eight years and more than eighty investors to become a real, finished, major motion picture. Eight years of a yes with no proof behind it. By then I'd learned it again and again: even the setbacks along the way were never really setbacks. They were redirections, moving me toward something I couldn't see from where I was standing. And the ultimate goal? For me it has always be the same: Connect deeper. Love more openly. Remember we are all the same.
Now O’Leary’s message of hope and resilience can be shared for generations to come!

Mark Your Calendar
That's exactly where I am right now. Ten days out from Pathways to Self going out into the world.
Next Friday I turn 44. Four days after that, on August 18th, this book becomes real to everyone around me whether I'm ready or not.
No amount of preparation will tell me how the launch will go, or make handing something this personal to the public feel like a sure thing. There's no proof yet that it'll land the way I hope. There's only the yes I already said, years ago, when I decided to write it.
If you've been reading along since June, here's the only thing I'll ask: mark your calendar for the 18th, grab a copy, and share it with someone you love. That's the whole ask. It would mean the world to me.
In return, next week I'll be sharing how you can win a chance to come stay with me here on retreat once ORA opens its doors.
What self-confidence actually means
I used to think confidence was a feeling. Something you either had or you didn't, a certainty other people seemed to be born with while I was still out here chasing it.
Here's what I know now: self-confidence isn't a mantra. It's not something you chant into existence, or wait to feel before you act. It looks exactly like everything I just told you. It looks like opening the doors before the brand is finished. Like saying yes to a movie with no finish line in sight. Like sending a vulnerable book into the world you can no longer control. It looks like remembering that you are perfect, whole and complete regardless of your output or accomplishments, success or failures.
And it looks smaller than that too: it looks like the boundary you finally say out loud instead of swallowing, the moment you stop overriding your own signals just to keep someone else comfortable. It gets built the same way, decision by decision, without waiting for the proof to show up first.
Underneath all of it is the nervous system, doing its quiet work. When we're dysregulated, everything feels distorted: conversations feel threatening, decisions feel urgent, silence feels dangerous. We override ourselves instead of listening, and call it keeping the peace. But when the body feels safe enough to soften, something clears. We can hear our own signals again. Honour them before the resentment builds.
That's the real work of self-confidence. Not becoming fearless. Becoming regulated enough to trust our gut, act anyway, and say the boundary out loud before it turns into an alarm bell. It is not something you wait to feel. It is something you practice, one uncertain yes at a time.
THIS WEEK'S PRACTICE
Strengthening Boundaries
There was a time in my life when I was constantly surrounded by people and felt entirely alone. I had no boundaries. I confused accessibility with generosity. I mistook overgiving for love. I ignored the whisperings of my gut until they became alarm bells, and eventually my body forced the reckoning.
What I learned: I am not drained by people. I am drained when I override myself.
Choose one relationship. Pick one area of your life where you feel a low hum of resentment or fatigue. Do you consistently feel drained after this? Is there an imbalance in giving and receiving? Did you ignore an early signal that something felt off? Are you staying out of obligation instead of desire?
Notice without judgment. You're not looking for someone to blame. You're looking for the moment you overrode yourself.
Choose one small boundary and say it. It doesn't need an explanation to be valid. "I'm not available for that." "I need to think about it." "That doesn't work for me." Say less. Trust more.
Let it be uncomfortable. The people who resist your boundaries are often the ones who benefited most from you not having any. That doesn't make them villains. It just makes your growth inconvenient for them.
Each time you honour a boundary, you strengthen the same muscle: self-trust, and self-confidence.
I'll see you next Friday for Chapter 9: Self-Realization, and the retreat giveaway details.
